Star appeal

Without a doubt, Captain Kirk (of Star Trek) should become our leader. If he can handle the complicated politics and relations between the many different communities in space, he wouldn’t have any difficulties dealing with Hong Kong’s problems. Right?

Rehman Redha, 17, Heung To Middle School (Tin Shui Wai)

World at his feet

Perhaps Natsu the Dragon Slayer from the manga series Fairy Tail should become a world leader. Natsu is a warrior who always emphasises the importance of teamwork and friendship. In our world, politicians are sometimes selfish, dishonest and get caught up in scandals. But Natsu brings people together just when they’re starting to lose their faith or their principles, so he deserves to be a world leader.

Out of the ordinary

I wish ordinary Hong Kong residents could be in charge of Hong Kong, because only they know what they need and what kind of city they want to create.

Cut to the Chase

I think Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson book series should take over Hong Kong. Why? Anyone who’s intelligent and a good enough leader to rebuild Mount Olympus should be able to fix most, if not all, of Hong Kong’s pressing problems.

Hay Wong, 12, Sha Tin College

A white knight

I would choose Arthur Pendragon to lead Hong Kong. King Arthur is a legendary British leader. According to legend, he was brave, kind and honest. He fought alongside his knights but also helped those in need.

Wing Hau, 15, Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary School

Magic touch

I wish Doraemon could be in charge of Hong Kong. Doraemon is both kind and smart, but what’s more, he could use his magic to solve problems in the city and give people a better quality of life.

Lyra Wong Wing-han, 15, Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary Scool

Jack Ma a top choice

A leader should have good judgement, be able to adapt easily, and be proactive. I think Jack Ma has all of these qualities. He is already an influential and successful figure, so he would make a great candidate for running Hong Kong.

Huang Kai-feng, 15, Workers’ Children Secondary School

A man of the people

I think former financial secretary John Tsang Chun-wah should run Hong Kong. He doesn’t follow orders from the central government; he only cares about the public. Also, his policies address the needs of lower-income families and immigrants.

Choi Lok-lam, 17, Workers’ Children Secondary School

A true warrior

Huang Rong is a character from The Legend of the Condor Heroes. She would be a great leader because she always wants to help people. In the book, she defends her city from Mongol invaders. She’s also intelligent and creative. She could do a lot for our city.

Yanni Chan, 13, Carmel Secondary School

A sweet deal

My choice is Willie Wonka from the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because he could help relieve Hongkongers’ stress and anxiety, and also get rid of their negative energy. People think stories about magical chocolate factories are for kids, but actually, adults just need to reconnect with their inner child.
