China’s population has fallen for the second straight year as the country’s birth rate fell to a record low. New government figures show the number of people in the country dropped by 2 million in 2023. Amid an economic slowdown and rising cost of living, many young people in China have given up on the idea of marriage and having children. Despite government measures to help boost the country’s population, experts project China’s population to continue declining.
