The death toll from the floods in Beijing has risen to 11, sparking a call from Chinese President Xi Jinping for quick action. The deadly floods in northern China were sparked by heavy rain brought on by Tropical Storm Doksuri. One firefighter and a township official were reported among the dead. State media said that 27 people were still missing and over 127,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. While the city’s hydrological station lowered the warning from red to yellow on August 1, 2023, authorities warn the risk of flooding and landslides remains high.
