As delegates from around China discuss the future of the country at the two biggest political meetings of the year, we ask some senior citizens in Beijing about how they feel about the direction the ruling Communist Party has taken the country. This year marks 40 years since China’s late paramount leader Deng Xiaoping introduced the economic reforms that transformed China from an insular backwater to the world’s second-largest economy. These senior citizens reflect on how their lives have changed since China began opening up.
