Guiyu is a town with an unenviable reputation. It once had over 5,000 domestic workshops extracting valuable metals from the e-waste imported from all over the world.
After 2013, local authorities set up the National Circular Economy Pilot Industry Park to regulate the industry, but remnants of the old waste remain.
