The Avengers and their lean, muscle-bound physiques are set to dazzle the big screen once again.

In this edition of The Avengers workout series, we’re going to look at Thanos – love him or hate him (and most of us hate him), you can’t deny that the wielder of the Infinity stones has impressive muscles and can wreak serious havoc.

Avenger: Thanos

Barbaric strength and colossal size are Thanos’ main attributes. If you want a hulking frame, you need to lift heavy weights and make use of big compound movements like the dead lift, squat and bench press.

Compound exercises are important for building strength and size. They require more balance and coordination, cross multiple joints and involve multiple muscle groups which allows you to use more weight. The use of heavy loads forces the body to recruit more muscle fibre and promotes maximal activation of your central nervous system – necessary for optimal strength gain.

Lifting with high loads means fewer reps but more rest is required for your muscles and central nervous system to recover.
