Lion

Sun Wukong, the Monkey King from Monkey King: Journey to the West, and Hermione Granger from Harry Potter would make great friends.

Wukong is powerful, stubborn and rebellious. He does things without thinking of the consequences. On the other hand, Hermione is a promising witch who is book-smart, logical and practical. They’re complete opposites. Yet, they have a lot in common: kindness, bravery and loyalty.

They also both feel lonely. Wukong grew up without a family to support him; he was literally born out of a rock! As for Hermione, she always feels a need to fit in at Hogwarts because her parents are muggles, which means they are not magical.

They both have a feeling of emptiness in their hearts. Wukong could be the one to cheer up Hermione, who always tries to look tough. He may even share a celestial peach he stole from the mother of gods with her. Of course, Hermione would be mad if she knew it was stolen.

They could bring out the best in one another. Hermione would learn to break free of the strict boundaries she had set for herself, while Wukong would learn that not all rules are made to be broken.

All this aside, Wukong is a powerful monkey who has lived a long time without any help from the Elixir of Life. He can transfigure – change form and appearance – into almost anything in the blink of an eye.

These traits and abilities would be invaluable to Hermione, who is on a quest to become a mighty witch. Plus, Hermione’s logical thinking could help Wukong steer away from unnecessary trouble.

These characters would be like the yin and yang of tai chi, complete opposites yet balancing and complementing each other.

A match made in dystopian heaven – excuse the oxymoron – would be The Maze Runner’s Thomas and the heroine of Divergent, Beatrice Prior, also known as Tris.

I can envision Thomas and Tris adding each other on Instagram and, seconds later, discussing the oppressive worlds they live in. They would hit it off within several replies and agree to spend an afternoon visiting a museum, reflecting on how societies of the world were created and revered. There would never be a dull or awkward moment.

Due to their headstrong personalities, they might occasionally bump heads, but they would fortunately learn to forgive and forget as they both live for the greater good.

Both characters are brave, determined and willing to fight. After Thomas awakens in the Glade, he shows strong leadership and a resourceful nature as he guides his fellow Gladers to safety through the many dangers in the maze. Tris chooses the Faction Dauntless, proving her immense courage and quick thinking.

Sharing a desire to protect others and experiences in facing life-threatening challenges, Thomas and Tris are an elite duo who can strategise and draw upon their unique strengths to overcome obstacles in their respective worlds.

Sheep

Despite existing in entirely different worlds, Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series and Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson series would undoubtedly form a strong friendship.

Hermione Granger is an intelligent witch known for her exceptional knowledge of spells and magical creatures. Her love for books and magic, combined with critical thinking and problem-solving skills, has made her the backbone of her friend group on most of their adventures. Hermione is also very compassionate, fighting for elves’ and other magical creatures’ freedom and equality. Her dedication to justice is one of her most admirable traits.

Annabeth Chase is the demigod daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom. She is a natural leader and a perfectionist. Similarly to Hermione, her knowledge of Greek mythology and architecture plays a crucial role in Percy Jackson’s quests. Annabeth always prevents Percy from making impulsive decisions. Her loyalty to her friends and courage when facing obstacles mirror Hermione’s qualities.

Hermione and Annabeth’s friendship would be built on mutual admiration for each other’s strengths. Their shared experience of facing extraordinary situations would create an unbreakable bond between them, and together, they would make an unstoppable team. With their combined intelligence and loyalty, they would be able to tackle any challenges that came their way while inspiring others around them to strive for greatness and stand up for what’s right. Their friendship would demonstrate the power of knowledge, bravery and unwavering support, making them the ideal role models for many.

Tiger

Matilda Wormwood from Roald Dahl’s Matilda and Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series are two characters I believe would be great friends. Matilda is a brilliant student whose great intelligence gives her telekinetic powers. Treated poorly by her parents, she escapes by immersing herself in a world of books.

Hermione Granger is a hard-working student at Hogwarts. A determined witch who deeply adores books, she makes exceptional use of her intelligence and bravery during severe hardship.

These characters would fall into an abyss of conversation, attempting to conclude whose love for reading is stronger. As they both cherish knowledge, they would strive to learn more about one another’s worlds. Their comparable personalities and shared values would create an unbreakable bond between them.

In their stories, they stand out for their commendable care for the people around them and their bravery. From helping Miss Honey escape Miss Trunchbull to encouraging classmates to stand up for themselves, Matilda can tell right from wrong. Hermione constantly takes risks across the series, no matter the danger. She prevents friends from getting into trouble and endangers her life to help fight antagonists.

Matilda and Hermione would have a powerful friendship, dedicated to others, fighting against injustices and inspiring those around them.
