Coronavirus: Hong Kong reports new possible local cases at schools and Academy of Performing Arts
- Potential new cases crop up after two local Covid-19 cases confirmed on Monday
- As of yesterday, the Centre for Health Protection reported a total of 1,286 confirmed cases
CoronavirusCoronavirus cases have been reported in at least four Hong Kong schools today. RTHK and local media HK01 reported that the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts confirmed one student had been infected with the coronavirus, and that the Wan Chai campus had been shut, and students told to leave immediately.
CCC Rotary Secondary School in Wong Tai Sin also released a statement that a Secondary Three student had tested positive for the disease. Students were told to leave as soon as they arrived this morning after the Education Bureau (EDB) advised the school to suspend classes until further notice. The EDB also asked the school to disinfect the campus, and suggested that parents decide whether or not students should be tested.
A primary school in Sheung Shui, Fung Kai Innovative School, said in a notice to parents that a teacher came into contact with a Covid-19 patient last Saturday. The school would continue to operate as normal, and they stated the campus and school buses had already been disinfected. The school also asked parents to take safety precautions in light of the new information, and to inform the school if their child was felling unwell.
HK01 reports that a teacher at Kwong Ming Ying Loi School near Yuen Long has been living with a family member who is showing preliminary symptoms of the virus. The school board has asked the teacher and their family to be tested. The staff members who had been in contact with this teacher have been asked to self-quarantine at home, while the teacher’s students have been allocated to other classrooms. The school continues to operate, but will let parents decide if they want to send their children to the campus.
Multiple local media outlets report that at Steward Pooi Kei Primary School in Fo Tan, a student's father tested positive and is currently in hospital. The school continues to be open for classes, but some parents have decided to keep their children at home for the time being.
