Bangladesh rushes to stop measles outbreak

Nearly 100 children have died in recent weeks as the outbreak hits 30 regions.

Bangladesh is in the midst of a measles outbreak that has killed 98 children as of April 8, 2026, according to health ministry reports. The deadly virus is spreading, in part, due to a slowdown in vaccination efforts during a period of political instability in 2024. The virus is difficult to treat and has the highest mortality rates in children younger than five years old.
