The UN climate summit in Dubai has wrapped up its latest conference with a deal to move away from fossil fuels. A last-minute agreement hammered out in the final hours of Cop28, for the first time, includes the issue of fossil fuels in dealing with climate change. Talks were derailed by an earlier draft calling for a rapid phase-out of energy sources such as oil, petrol and natural gas. But when a compromise was reached, it paved the way for countries to transition away from the fuel that causes global warming.
