Hongkongers cast ballots in city’s legislative election

Hongkongers cast ballots in the city’s legislative election on December 5, 2025. In total, 90 seats in the Legislative Council will be determined, with 20 directly picked by residents across 10 geographical constituencies. 30 functional constituency seats will be selected by industry leaders and the remaining 40 will be picked by the Election Committee. Beijing expressed confidence in the city’s ability to handle the election as well as the aftermath of the fire at Wang Fuk Court housing estate in Tai Po. The blaze on November 26, 2025, was Hong Kong’s deadliest in decades.
