Hong Kong’s Jimmy Lai found guilty on all charges in national security trial
Former media boss convicted of conspiracy to produce and publish seditious materials and conspiracy to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security.
Former Hong Kong media boss Jimmy Lai Chee-ying was found guilty on all charges in his national security trial on December 15, 2025. Three Hong Kong judges convicted Lai on one count of conspiracy to print, publish, sell, offer for sale, distribute, display and/or reproduce seditious publications; and two charges of conspiracy to commit collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security. The 78-year-old founder of the now-defunct Apple Daily tabloid has spent most of the past five years in solitary confinement at his own request and now could face life in prison.
