Malaysia to invest in Indonesia’s new capital as PM Anwar Ibrahim embarks on Jakarta state visit

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in his first overseas trip on January 9, 2023, since taking office in November the previous year. The two leaders discussed Indonesia’s plan to build a new capital on the island of Borneo, which is shared with Malaysia. Anwar expressed hopes that the development would benefit the wider region.
