For many parents in Hong Kong, securing a place for their child in a prestigious kindergarten is more than just an early educational milestone – it’s a decision that can lay the foundation for future academic success and, eventually, for career opportunities.

Early admission into top kindergartens is increasingly viewed as the first crucial step in accessing elite primary and secondary schools, which in turn can serve as gateways to leading universities worldwide.

Parents look far beyond early childhood learning when deciding which kindergarten is best for their child. Many also take into consideration exposure to international curricula, social connections among like-minded families, and priority or streamlined access to affiliated primary schools.
“[Kindergarten is] no longer seen as just day care, but as a vital part of a child’s educational trajectory, setting them up for future learning,” says a spokesperson for the English Schools Foundation (ESF).

Popular kindergartens, like those under the ESF umbrella, are known for their strong feeder links to primary and secondary schools. For example, the new ESF Renaissance College Kindergarten (RCHK) on Sai Sha Road and Quarry Bay School Kindergarten in Kornhill, both set to open for the 2026-27 school year, will provide a smooth and seamless admissions process to Year 1 at their respective primary schools.
