Almost a week after two devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela, survivors were still being found alive by rescuers that have come from abroad to help.
Salvadorean rescuers reached a 44-year-old man trapped under the rubble of a shopping centre in the coastal city of Maiquetía in the early hours of Tuesday, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele wrote on the platform X.
The man had been supplied with water through a tube while rescuers found a way to reach him safely.
Workers from the Ecuadorian capital Quito’s fire brigade, which was also deployed in the disaster area, reported on Monday that they had rescued a 12-year-old boy.
“Five days after the earthquake, signs of life are the greatest motivation to keep going,” read a post on the platform X.

“As long as there is still a chance, we will keep searching.”
A dog was also among those rescued, according to Bukele.
The animal, named Giselle, was pulled from the rubble in the city of Caraballeda after a five-hour operation.
A video showed the dog lying in the arms of its rescuer and excitedly licking his face.
The rescue reports could not initially be independently verified.
The Venezuelan government said the death toll from the two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5, that struck last Wednesday, stands at 1,719.

Around 5,000 people are injured, with no government word on the number of missing.
According to a modelling estimate by the US Geological Survey, the death toll could run into the tens of thousands.
Around 50,000 people are still listed as missing, according to the United Nations, which estimates that the disaster generated roughly 1.2 million tonnes of debris in La Guaira state.
The quakes – the strongest to hit the South American nation in more than a century – likely damaged or destroyed 58,870 buildings, according to a preliminary assessment of satellite data published by Nasa.
At the only public cemetery in the capital, Caracas, the two crematory ovens have been working at full capacity.

Between Friday and Sunday, 60 to 70 burials were held each day.
A cry of “Mom, I love you!” rose above a steady low sobbing and the sound of shovels mixing cement.
Sergio Vergara fell to his knees. He was the one who found his nephew, along with his entire family, in a collapsed building in the hardest-hit state of La Guaira.
“It was a horrible experience, pulling him out, his children,” said the 42-year-old man.
