More than 200 households sweltering in a public housing block in northern Hong Kong remained without electricity on Monday, more than two days after a power outage hit the building.

The outage, which affected 473 households at Tin Ming House in Sheung Shui’s Tin Ping Estate, was caused by an electrical facility malfunction on Saturday afternoon.

As of Monday morning, 236 households across 10 floors were still without power, according to the Home Affairs Department.

The power cut left residents without hot water for showers or air conditioning, driving some to spend the night away from home.

An employee in Tin Ping Estate’s management office said on Sunday that repair work was expected to last until Wednesday as workmen were not available over the weekend.

A cable and other components would have to be replaced so the work would take around three days, the employee added.
