Taxi crashes into lamp post in Hong Kong’s Admiralty, injuring driver, 77, and passenger

A taxi driver, 77, and his passenger were injured after the vehicle crashed into a lamp post in Hong Kong’s Admiralty, disrupting tram services and two traffic lanes during the morning rush hour on Thursday.

The taxi was travelling west on Queensway outside Pacific Place shopping centre at around 9am when it lost control and swerved right.

The vehicle ran into the railing separating car lanes and tram tracks before ramming into the lamp post and severely denting its bonnet.

Engine components and glass shards from the shattered windscreen were flung onto the nearby tram tracks.

Firefighters rescued the male passenger, 46, and the driver who were trapped inside the car after the crash damaged the taxi’s doors.

The Fire Services Department dispatched two fire trucks and an ambulance to the scene.
