Hong Kong police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal crash in Hung Hom, where a 50-year-old woman died after being trapped under a truck that rammed into a bus stop.

The force said on Tuesday afternoon that the man was apprehended for dangerous driving causing death. A source said the 34-year-old man arrested was the truck owner.

The accident occurred along Chatham Road North in Hung Hom at around 6.30am.

The source earlier said the driver, travelling down a ramp from the elevated East Kowloon Corridor, suddenly lost control of the truck, which veered into the bus stop before striking two women and coming to a halt. The driver fled the scene.

The victim trapped beneath the truck was rescued by firefighters and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei, where she was later pronounced dead.

The other woman, 33, suffered injuries to the left side of her pelvis, knees and right palm and was taken to the same hospital for a check-up.
