The vegan dining scene has never been this vibrant in Hong Kong – from seasonal menus to Green Monday specials, there is no shortage of creativity in this city to delight vegans and surprise non-vegans alike. Now that December is upon us and it is all about feasting and gathering to share meals together, we thought this little round-up of places that are doing it well – and with their own unique twist on top– would be a great survivor’s guide for the month ahead. So hop on in!

You might think that tea powders are hardly the making of decadent desserts, and the difference here is that the tea is all sustainably sourced and organic. This of course means that the little cakes are plant-based and guilt-free – and the tea that comes alongside is full of flavour, even with multiple steepings – a true testament to its unique origins. Why this Korean YouTuber’s vegan videos are all the rage

Miss Lee, a vegetarian and vegan concept restaurant that has just thrown open its doors in The Wellington, certainly has famous brothers and sisters – she counts restaurants such as Lee Ho Sing and Lee Lo Mei as her siblings. This is ZS Hospitality Group’s first full vegetarian/vegan venture, and we are definitely in love with the beautiful decor (very Wes Anderson) and quirky spin on popular Chinese dishes. While ranging from “small” to “large”, all are prettily bite-size – delicious and healthy is one of the objectives here. Be sure to try out the flower bouquet, a vegan spin on roasted duck using completely natural products like shiitake mushroom, julienne carrot and pickled cucumber as well as the lotus leaf. Vegetarian options can be requested in vegan versions – the chef and staff are super friendly.

What a wonderful way to celebrate #internationalmeatlessday today! I was invited to check out @bedu_hk's ever changing #greenmonday menu (that should keep you in your toes!), and from the hummus and flatbread, charred broccoli to the stuffed zucchini and cumin-drenched cabbage, it has been a Mediterranean feast indeed. Inspired by the success of impact media platform Green Queen’s SDG #PlantBased Dinner Series – on which Bedu played host – the restaurant has now got into the Green Monday game with three plant-based specials every Monday. Executive chef Corey Riches keeps the menu fresh on a weekly basis, and we have to say that the highlight were definitely the golden fried Brussels sprouts in pickled chilli and hummus, stuffed zucchini, as well as the Bedu à la carte menu mainstays, smoked hummus and flatbread and charred broccoli. If bigwigs like Bedu are backing the vegan initiative up, you know for sure that change is definitely underway.

There is a need for self-care more than ever in this busy month. The Secrets of Balinese Wellness is in our opinion a great introduction to all the holistic principles of Fivelements (the original Bali Retreat is especially world renowned) – you get a special breathwork session right before the body massage begins, as well as a deep, warm, foot soak filled with natural juices from fruits such as orange and lime. To end, the masseuse also performs a little Om Shanti chant, so you also get a good injection of calm from body to mind and soul. The Ultra Hydrating Balinese Facial wraps up the experience nicely – be pleasantly surprised by the array of natural products (and literally, I mean, natural: think a culled aloe vera, cucumber to detox and cool dark circles, as well as extra virgin coconut oil to nourish).
