Fluent in four languages, Ghenea was a model before she switched to acting; she’s already starred alongside the likes of Lady Gaga, Jared Leto and Jude Law

Mădălina Ghenea, the Romanian model turned House of Gucci actress, is working hard to capture audiences’ attention beyond what’s written about her in the tabloids.

From model to actress

The 37-year-old actress began her career at 15, modelling across Europe. Throughout her modelling career she appeared in campaigns for brands including Peroni beer and for the long-standing German mail-order catalogue Quelle.

Despite finding success as a model in Europe, Japan and South Africa, Ghenea had aspirations beyond the runaway and so began pursuing a career in acting. In 2011 she starred in her first film, Italian comedy I soliti idioti: Il film (The Usual Idiots: The Film).

Since then she’s been taking on roles steadily. As a polyglot fluent in Romanian, Italian, Spanish and English, she has acted in English and Italian films. In 2013 she starred alongside English actor Jude Law in the crime comedy Dom Hemingway. She also had a small part in Ben Stiller’s comedy Zoolander 2 in 2016.

Ghenea’s most notable role came in 2021 when she was cast in Ridley Scott’s biographical depiction of the Gucci family, House of Gucci. She appeared as Italian film icon Sophia Loren alongside an ensemble cast that included Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino and Salma Hayek.

She followed that up with a leading role in the film Deep Fear. In the 2023 thriller she plays Naomi, a solo sailor forced to retrieve drugs from shark-heavy waters. Gossip Girl actor Ed Westwick also stars in the film.
