Hong Kong’s dining scene is getting more exciting new additions this August.
Foodies can look forward to a wave of top international imports, from London’s most iconic purveyor of Portuguese tarts to Japan’s favourite budget-friendly yakitori chain.
Also opening their doors will be a refined hotel lobby cafe, an exclusive counter-style Chinese omakase restaurant, a rooftop Italian joint and more.

1. Yusang

Contemporary Korean restaurant Yusang is set to open at Landmark Prince’s in Central in mid-August.
The restaurant will highlight anju, Korean food that is traditionally coupled with alcoholic drinks. The menu revolves around light, cold dishes, warm stews, and charcoal-grilled mains paired with Korean soju, makgeolli, and fruit wines.
Yusang provides lunch options by day and transforms into a lively, slow-paced social hub for drinks and conversation after work.

2. Ponentino

Located on the 47th floor of The Royal Garden Kowloon East hotel in Tseung Kwan O, Ponentino offers classic, homestyle shared Italian dishes alongside executive chef Joe Wat’s tasting menus.
Signature highlights include the vibrant botan shrimp carpaccio with yuzu sorbet and a rich linguine with Spanish red prawns. All-day semi-buffet-style dining is available, where diners pay a set price to enjoy a buffet and a main from the à la carte menu.
There are also classic desserts such as home-made tiramisu and flaky apple pie.

3. Yun
Ultra-exclusive “Chinese omakase” restaurant Yun combines counter-style fine dining with wok hei stir-fry flavours. The kitchen is led by chef Shih Ching-hui, an alumnus of Taipei’s two-Michelin-star Shoun Ryugin.
Signature creations include an innovative suckling pig hand roll and 10-day-aged Sendai beef tongue. Reservations are restricted to one booking every three months per person.

4. Tarte by RH

Tarte by RH has opened its flagship patisserie at The Southside mall in Wong Chuk Hang.
Founded by chef Rania Hatoum, the brand initially gained popularity as a high-end private dining and catering concept.
It captivated discerning Hong Kong foodies with luxurious takes on humble pastries, such as its signature 24-karat gold and Kaviari caviar egg tarts.

5. Food Atlas

An elevated new food court concept bringing together 12 global culinary brands has opened at Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Headlining the space are branches of four Michelin Bib Gourmand-recommended restaurants: Man Kee Cart Noodle, Thai Pai Dong, Ning Kee and Fisholic.
Diners can also enjoy unique concepts such as solo-diner-friendly Korean barbecue restaurant Dongbaek, alongside joints serving Japanese fusion sushi rolls, open-flame claypot rice and more.

6. Sugar Daddy

Award-winning pastry chef Fabio Bardi, known for his time at Estro and Tozzo in Central, is opening Sugar Daddy this August in Wan Chai, where the playful cafe will infuse Italian classics with cheeky energy.
Bardi is known for making luxurious, low-sugar pastries with natural ingredients. At Sugar Daddy, diners will be able to try his ultimate signature maritozzi – a sweet Roman brioche bun packed with fresh cream.
The menu also features freshly baked cornetti, piccola pasticceria mini pastries, and fruit-forward artisan gelato, alongside inclusive vegan and sugar-free variations.

7. Gyutan Valley
Opening on Leighton Road in Causeway Bay, Gyutan Valley is a dream come true for fans of ox tongue.
The signature thick-cut gyutan is seasoned with salt and black pepper, then seared over high heat to create deeply caramelised chunks with crisp edges that give way to juicy, springy succulence.
Enthusiasts can look forward to the thick-cut gyutan paired with A4 Tokachi Wagyu from Hokkaido in a flavour-packed set featuring a decadent side of rich Wagyu curry.

8. The Communal
Sophisticated new hotel lobby cafe The Communal has opened as part of the multimillion-dollar transformation of Mandarin Oriental The Landmark Hong Kong.
The upscale artisan coffee atelier’s barista team crafts daily brews. Beyond high-end coffees, guests can enjoy acclaimed signature pastries such as fresh canelés and pistachio cookies.

9. Santa Nata

Renowned London bakery Santa Nata is bringing its signature handmade Portuguese custard tarts to Hong Kong at its new Asia flagship branch on Lyndhurst Terrace in Central.
The brand honours a 300-year-old traditional recipe; each tart features a caramelised, creamy centre encased in crisp, flaky laminated pastry.
As well as the signature Portuguese tarts, or pasteis de nata, the menu features Pao de Deus: a twist on traditional sweet bread in the style of a Hong Kong coconut bun.

10. Pici

The popular Hong Kong pasta bar has opened its 10th branch, in Yoho Mall I in Yuen Long. Guests can enjoy Pici’s signature crowd-pleasers, starting with the decadent bone marrow Wagyu tartare.
Mains featuring Pici’s daily handmade pasta include tagliolini truffle made with a silky truffle emulsion, fiery orecchiette ‘nduja with Italian sausage, and the bestselling lasagne classica, which pairs perfectly with Italian wines.

11. Torikizoku

Japan’s celebrated yakitori chain Torikizoku will open its sixth Hong Kong branch, at Mong Kok’s Grand Plaza, this August.
The restaurant will operate on an affordable two-tier pricing system, with plates costing either HK$19.90 (US$2.50) or HK$29.90.
Highlights will include the signature Kizokuyaki chicken skewers grilled with traditional tare sauce or rock salt. Cuts exclusive to the Mong Kok branch will include chicken oyster and chicken breast soft bone, which will come paired with a specially crafted sauce.

12. Canto Jade

Canto Jade brings the nostalgic tradition of tableside dim sum carts to Tai Koo’s Cityplaza.
Signature dishes include the Eight Delights Dim Sum Birdcage selection, the flambéed char siu and the traditional steamed roe crab with pork patty.
To shake things up, the restaurant features a “Canto Sweet” dessert corner and a 24 Solar Terms Tea Menu featuring artisanal tea lattes and playful steamed custard cakes shaped like Chinese chess pieces.
