1. Malaysian breakfast foods in George Town, Penang
At a food stall in Penang, Malaysia, a roti maker flings dough through the air.
Once it has been stretched into a thin circle about 60cm (2 feet) in diameter, he lowers it and deftly folds it into a neat packet.
When lightly fried in ghee, it is transformed into a multilayered flatbread called roti canai; one of many traditional Malaysian breakfast foods, it is often accompanied by a small bowl of curry for dipping.

2. Food mistakes to avoid over the Lunar New Year holiday

The Lunar New Year holiday is associated with indulgence. During the festival, dinner tables heave with whole fish, platters of sticky glutinous rice cake (nin go) and turnip cake, and prosperity boxes overflow with symbolic sweet treats.

3. How a Hong Kong chilli sauce became a favourite 8,000km away

While going over his business ledgers, Daniel Chan, the fourth-generation owner of Hong Kong’s Koon Chun sauce factory, made an interesting discovery. One of his biggest groups of clients came from Réunion Island, a French department in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, with a population just shy of 900,000.
“We were sending two containers of soy, oyster and chilli sauce there every month,” Chan says. “I was so curious why they would like our sauce so much.”

Silky, slippery cheung fun, also known as steamed rice noodle rolls, have long been a staple dish at Hong Kong’s dim sum restaurants and street food stalls.
Whether served with barbecue pork, shrimp or beef inside, or simply rolled into thick noodles and topped with soy, hoisin and peanut sauces, it is a dish that has cemented its status over the years as a beloved breakfast food and Cantonese snack.

5. All about Hong Kong Instagram star Uncle K

It is easy to spot Kent Wong among the lunchtime diners at a busy cooked food centre in Hong Kong’s Kowloon City neighbourhood.
He is wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses and a tropical-print shirt – the signature style of his social media moniker, Uncle K.
Wong, who has amassed more than 184,000 Instagram followers since he began posting food videos a year ago, chose the look as a disguise during the early days of creating content. But, ironically, his glasses and cap now define him.

Noodles are said to have been invented in China more than 4,000 years ago, with some accounts claiming Marco Polo brought them to Italy during the 13th century.
If this is true, Italian-Chinese fusion should feel like a natural pairing.
However, even slight deviations from Italian recipes have been known to spark fierce objections from traditionalists on the internet and beyond.
But for one MasterChef Italia contestant, the courage to blend the two cuisines and break from tradition was the thing that ultimately led her to victory.

Rayson Chan and his father Woon Tai are on a well-earned break after a hectic lunch service at their family-run restaurant in a cooked food centre in Hong Kong’s Kowloon City neighbourhood.
The duo operate Lok Yuen (Shop 6, 3/F, Kowloon City Municipal Services Building, 100 Nga Tsin Wai Road, Kowloon City. Tel: 2382 3367), a cha chaan teng-style eatery set up by Rayson’s grandfather more than 50 years ago.
Diners flock there to indulge in nostalgic dishes such as fried chicken wings, deep-fried pork chop and braised vermicelli with preserved vegetables, all washed down with classic drinks like red bean ice.
