Led by Ka-sing Lung, the Hong Kong-born artist best known for creating the Labubu characters, the festival will be packed with booths and events. Jennie Kim of Blackpink will headline the Complex Live! stage on Sunday, marking her highly anticipated solo debut in Hong Kong. She shares the weekend billing with a massive roster, including American rapper Yeat and Korean heavyweights Jay Park, Crush and Allday Project. At the heart of the street festival is food, with this year’s culinary line-up including the Michelin-recommended Bombay Dreams and its signature tangy pani puri. Sangeetha Vegetarian Restaurant will be on hand for those seeking traditional South Indian flavours, while Jo Jo Indian Cuisine and Tagline HK bring modern Indian-Arabic fusion to the mix. Tulsi Indian Restaurant will serve their famous “naanwiches”, which can be washed down with Indian-inspired cocktails by Mizunara, such as its masala chai highball. Beyond cuisine, there will also be a parade on Saturday night, followed by workshops covering yoga, dance, henna art and pulse reading, and Bollywood movie screenings, all of which can be done wearing traditional cultural attire. HKwalls Street Art Festival From March 21 to 29, HKwalls will turn the Central and Western district into an open-air gallery, bringing together over 20 local and international artists from 14 countries. This opening weekend kicks off with an “Art Battle” on Saturday night, where artists go head-to-head creating pieces in real time with DJ Fabsabs spinning Cantopop mixes. Throughout the week, the streets themselves become the main attraction. The festival hub at PMQ will be the launch pad for exploring murals that will pop up across Sheung Wan, Central and Sai Ying Pun. This year’s artist roster reads like a who’s who of global street art, including Fabio Petani from Italy, Irish artist Asbestos and Hardthirteen of Indonesia. Keep an eye out for the “Art on the Move” trucks, for which six artists including Mooncasket (Hong Kong) and Said Kinos (Netherlands) have transformed GoGoX vehicles into immersive mobile galleries you can step inside. Red Doors Studio open house To celebrate its 11th anniversary, Red Doors Studio will host an all-day open house that harnesses the profound power of group sound healing. Founder Martha Collard cites neurologist Oliver Sacks’ recognition of music as “the profoundest nonchemical medication”, while her own Covid-era study documented the physical and mental benefits of weekly gong baths. The Saturday begins with the studio’s monthly morning sharing for cancer survivors, their families and friends. The rest of the day will focus on sonic wellness, with participants able to experience its meditative effects in visualisation activities, tea ceremonies and even as they are cocooned in oversized hammocks. Ciao UFO For a movie night in, check out Ciao UFO – an engrossing drama that takes a sci-fi-tinged urban legend as its launch pad for a nostalgic trip through instantly recognisable scenes from recent Hong Kong history, as experienced by three former childhood friends who find their dreams slipping away as adults. While it spans two decades and involves plenty of supporting characters, Ciao UFO is essentially a triptych following the largely unconnected lives of Kin (Chui Tien-you), Heem (Wong You-nam) and Hoyi (Charlene Choi Cheuk-yin), whose destinies are forever intertwined after a UFO sighting at Hong Kong’s Wah Fu Estate in 1985.
