Pop princess Olivia Rodrigo is set to perform at Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo on September 24 in her first gig in the city.
It is part of the Grammy-award winning artist’s Guts World Tour – comprising 99 shows at venues in North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and South America – that began on February 23, 2024, and ends in March next year.
With almost 40 million followers on Instagram, there is no doubt that 21-year-old Rodrigo is a global superstar.

1. Once upon a time …
The Filipino-American artist started acting at a young age, first appearing on the pop-culture radar when she landed a role in Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark (2016-2019), a hit series about best friends Paige (Rodrigo) and Frankie (US actress Madison Hu) who take the video blogging world by storm with a quirky comedy channel.
She went on to star as Nini Salazar-Roberts in the Disney+ show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (2019-2022). Fun fact: Rodrigo wrote and performed the series’ promotional single, All I Want. She left the show after its third season to focus on making music.


2. A shift into music
Rodrigo signed with US record label Geffen Records in 2020. A year later, in January 2021, she released her debut single, “Drivers License”. It debuted at No 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 weekly chart of the most popular singles released in the US, became a runaway hit, and has racked up 545 million views to date on YouTube.
Rodrigo’s follow-up single “Deja Vu” dropped three months later, in April, and debuted at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 – making her the first artist to have their first two releases make the top 10 of the Hot 100.
Next came “Good 4 U” in May 2021. It became her second single to debut at number one on the Hot 100 chart.
Her first album, Sour, was one of the bestselling albums of 2021. The creative process behind the making of it was explained in the 2022 documentary Olivia Rodrigo: Driving Home 2 U.

3. More shining moments
There are too many accolades to mention, but here are the big ones: Rodrigo has released eight multi-platinum songs (which make more than two million sales in the US), picked up three Grammy Awards, has an American Music Award, seven Billboard Music Awards and has scooped up four MTV Video Music Awards.
In 2021, she was recognised as Time magazine’s Entertainer of the Year.
4. The art of giving
Rodrigo is not just a great singer, she is also known for supporting good causes.

For her world tour, the singer launched Fund 4 Good, a global initiative to help build an equitable and just future for all women, girls and people seeking reproductive health freedom. A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales for the Guts tour goes towards the fund.
In 2021, she donated all proceeds from her Spicy Pisces T-shirts merchandise line to She’s the First, a charity that sponsors scholarships and education for girls in developing countries.
A portion of the platinum ticket sales for her debut concert tour, the Sour Tour, in 2022 was donated to Women for Women International, which supports female survivors of war.
