From snake-themed events to whether your luck is in: discover all you need to know about the Lunar New Year in our Year of the Snake 2025 series.
If your Chinese zodiac predicts a rough year ahead, fret not – feng shui is here to help.
The ancient practice also known as Chinese geomancy is said to help balance the energies of people and their environment. Some people consult it to mitigate bad luck and improve their prospects for health, wealth or love.
With origins in ancient Chinese philosophy and Taoism, feng shui is a holistic approach to living in harmony with the natural world.

This traditional practice seeks to optimise the flow of energy, or qi, by considering the placement of furniture, choice of colours and other items, and even the state of the surrounding landscape.
Imagine a home that is peaceful and energising, one in which you feel more relaxed and productive. Feng shui principles are said to help you achieve this by creating a space that supports your overall well-being.
Feng shui master Andrew Kwan shares tips on the best cardinal points in a living space to place lucky elements, colours or symbols that might boost luck or ward off bad energy in the Year of the Snake depending on your Chinese zodiac sign.
In the eighth instalment in this series, he focuses on people born in the Year of the Rat.

Rat (1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020)
According to Kwan, Rats will get help from benefactors in the Year of the Snake, but they must be careful of gossipers and back-stabbers.
While financial luck will be good, there will also a lot of pressure in the workplace. Rats should focus on making money through work and business and should be cautious when it comes to high-risk investments.
While married Rats will fare pretty well, men will fare better in terms of a stable relationship while women will be better at networking.
Rats will be busy with both their work and personal lives, and their work-life balance will become irregular. They should pay attention to their cardiovascular health.
It is a stable year for Rats to prosper, so they should focus on long-term goals and engage in further studies to improve their competitiveness.




This year, the wealth position is south and southeast for Rats, which means they should place gold ingot decorations, decorative items with flowing water, or a fish tank or bowl in the south and southeast of their living space.
The love direction is west, so Rats can decorate that area with cherry blossoms, red roses or purple orchids.
The health and general fortune direction is northwest, so Rats can decorate that area with objects made with brown crystals to enhance their luck.
