The Beauty Blog | Good stuff: my favourite new skincare discoveries
Face up to summer with the latest lotions and potions
It’s been a while since my last Good Stuff post, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t come across some great new skincare products. I’ve been testing a range of items – particularly any that promise to combat the grease-inducing effects of summer – and found several favourites. Here’s to happy skin all season long.
After a recent skin analysis highlighted the fine lines and dryness around my eyes, I’ve been hoarding everything targeted to this delicate area. My favourite by far has been the Ultimate Contouring Eye Lift (HK$1,080) with its cooling ceramic applicator. It does a great job of soothing and moisturising – thanks to ingredients including algae, chamomile and South Sea Pearls – but the best part is the applicator that makes using the cream feel like having an at-home facial. Available at Estée Lauder counters and stores.
I didn’t know what to expect when I received samples of Jenetiqa, a Canadian skincare brand based on the science of Ubiquinol (a highly bio-available form of the antioxidant Coenzyme Q10). But I found the serum, Première Essence (HK$450) and day cream, La Crème Première (HK$530), to be every bit as good as more well-known luxury brands. The herbal-scented formulas are light but hydrating, and have a faint shimmering tint that helps to hide imperfections. Available online from www.canadamall.asia
3. Vichy Normaderm Night Detox
If summer is wreaking its havoc on your skin, I have found the answer in Vichy’s Normaderm collection for oily skin. The comprehensive range now includes the Global Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care (HK$225) for daytime use and the Night Detox (HK$170). Both gently exfoliate and help to control the production of sebum, and absorb quickly without leaving any residue. Available at all major beauty and personal care stores.
There’s nothing like a good face scrub at the end of a hot day, and Helena Rubinstein’s Care-In-Peel (HK$550) is my latest favourite. The balm-like cleanser was inspired by the beauty rituals of Korean women and features antioxidant-rich black rice (giving it a unique dark colour) along with glycolic acid. Despite its thick and somewhat oily texture, the scrub rinses off cleanly without over-drying the skin. It’s also great to use before a mask. Available at Helena Rubinstein counters and Elements store (2196 8271).
