I think we can all agree it was a glorious Easter weekend, perfect for egg hunts and picnics or just lounging by the pool. Not so glorious? Humidity was back in full force. Today’s reading is 91 per cent, and the forecast for the week goes as high as 95. I’ve decided to take some preventive measures this year and assemble an arsenal of products to help battle the inevitable clogged pores and overactive oil glands.

1. Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment
One of the best deep-cleansing masks I’ve tried, Glamglow’s Supermud Clearing Treatment (HK$560) uses a blend of activated charcoal, clay and acids to achieve “deep pore vacuum extraction”. Besides natural herbs and antioxidants, the thick mud-like mask has real pieces of eucalyptus leaf. Even better, you can see it working as it the mud dries from dark to light green. Available at Joyce Beauty counters and stores, and Joyce Grooming (2522 2886).
2. Eve Lom Dynaspot
Eve Lom already has a cult following for her cleansing balm – perfect to rinse off a summer day – and now she’s created a quick fix for those breakouts and blemishes that seem to hang around over summer. Dynaspot (HK$320) boasts a range of acne-fighting ingredients including salicylic acid, tea tree oil and zinc oxide. It comes in a skin-tone tint with an ophthalmic nozzle for precise application. Available at 10/10 Space (3595 1152) and Joyce Beauty counters and stores.
3. Rodial X-treme After-Party Scrub
Part of the new Rodial X-treme Range launched in March, this supercharged scrub (HK$480) features both beads to buff away dead skin cells and acids to deep-cleanse and diminish imperfections. It also has vitamin E and shea butter to soften the skin and a probiotic technology to reduce shine. Available at Lane Crawford IFC Mall (3572 0364), Pacific Place (3798 0172), Times Square (3798 0171) and Hysan Place (2762 0130), and Joyce Beauty New World Tower (2869 5816), Festival Walk (2265 7176) and Harbour City (2367 0860).

4. La Roche-Posay Uvidea Aqua Fresh Gel
There’s nothing worse on a hot, humid day than slathering on a greasy sunscreen. Thankfully, sun protection has become a lot more advanced, in large part due to La Roche-Posay. The hi-tech French skincare brand’s new Uvidea Aqua Fresh Gel (HK$270) is designed to soothe, hydrate and protect sensitive skin. The SPF 30 formula has a lightweight gel texture that melts into skin, and can double as a make-up base. Available at Mannings and Watsons. See website for your nearest location.
