The Beauty Blog | Good stuff: La Biosthetique Hydro-Actif
The hi-tech collection takes hydration to a whole new level.
What sets Hydro-Actif apart from other hydrating collections is its use of four different types of hyaluronic acid, an essential component of the skin that helps bind large amounts of water (and reduces as we age). The concentrate uses high doses of short-, medium- and long-chain as well as cross-linked hyaluronic acid combined with other active ingredients to boost the skin’s moisture by up to 78 per cent two hours after application.
Most skincare brands make similar claims, but at the launch La Biosthetique actually had a device to measure the moisture levels in our skin and mine rose from below 40 per cent to over 50 in just 10 minutes. Having received the concentrate and cleansing mousse towards the end of winter, I was eager to try the products at home.
While I found the cleanser effective at removing make-up, my skin was ever so slightly dry afterwards. But that was quickly remedied by the concentrate. A clear and lightly scented liquid, it reminded me of dishwashing soap. It even foamed a bit as I rubbed it in, but was absorbed almost immediately. There was no oily residue and my skin, which tends to dry out later in the day, seemed to stay hydrated longer than it does with other products.
Hydro-Actif was created to “solve the problem of forever thirsty skin” and it’s certainly helped mine get through an extended dry period. I’d recommend the concentrate for anyone who needs extra moisture but doesn’t want a heavy cream. The cleanser would also be a good choice for summer since it rinses off completely without stripping the skin. And if no amount of moisturiser seems to work for you, there’s certainly no harm in trying the complete line.
