Shop for high-end designer books to get a glimpse of Hong Kong’s creative flair, uncover neglected histories at a one-day-only event at the M+ museum, find faces and stories in the folds of a siu mai, restore balance with a cocktail inspired by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and more this weekend in Hong Kong.

1. Taschen Sale
This weekend sees the final days of bespoke art-book publisher Taschen’s biannual sale, which features an eye-catching catalogue of coffee table books on topics including art, fashion, photography, design, pop culture and travel.
From affordable titles to luxurious collector’s prints, the offerings include discounts of up to 75 per cent both online and in flagship stores worldwide, including its Tai Kwun location.
Heavy hitters and exclusive copies are running out fast, namely Thomas Laird’s Murals of Tibet, signed editions of Homage to Ali by Neil Leifer and bestseller The Gourmand’s Lemon.

2. Avant-Garde Now: Hidden Spaces

The “Avant-Garde Now: Hidden Spaces” event, taking place this Saturday at M+, is part of a regular series dedicated to moving image practices that use time-based visual media such as film and digital installations.
Running from 11am to 6pm, the one-day event gathers four pioneering artists who create a dialogue with neglected histories and the forgotten past of modern-day society.
Interactive activities and sessions feature live performances, group discussions, deep dives and back-to-back screenings, covering topics such as emerging technologies, the power of sound, and decolonisation under sociopolitical contexts.
The day culminates in a collective artists’ round table where each shares their individual explorations and connections to these systems and traditions hidden in plain sight.

3. Clan & Company Lounge Pop-up at Epure

This weekend, the Hong Kong-based TCM-inspired liquor brand Magnolia Lab is setting up shop with its concept bar, Clan & Company, at the Michelin-starred Epure for cocktails with a cultural twist.
Led by TCM practitioner Tina Yu and mixologist Kosa Law, the experience begins with a wellness questionnaire to determine which of three bespoke herbal cocktails – targeting hydration, emotional decompression and energy restoration – best aligns with a guest’s needs.
This tailored tasting is paired with artisanal desserts, a sound therapy playlist from Hong Kong singer-songwriter Jocelyn Chan, a TCM consultation, and goodies to bring home. Guests can book a two-hour session between 5pm and 11pm on Saturday and Sunday.

4. Double Umami

Hong Kong’s vibrant yum cha tradition is getting a contemporary reinterpretation at JPS Gallery with “Double Umami”, an exhibition by local artists David Leung and Lousy after two years of discussing the collaboration, ironically, over tea.
Open now until March 7, the gallery showcases the cultural significance of the city’s tea rituals. Lousy creates his fluorescent street-style drawings on dim sum order sheets, while Leung showcases his signature mirrored photography, revealing hidden faces in dumplings and egg tarts framed inside bamboo steamers crafted by master artisan Lui Ming.
Together, their project extends into limited-edition sauces, featuring 50 bottles each of a soy sauce made in collaboration with May Chow, who was named Asia’s best female chef in 2017 by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, and chilli sauce with Wendy’s Wok World.

5. Sentimental Value


If you catch only one film this weekend, make it Sentimental Value, the Norwegian drama currently sweeping awards season with nine Oscar nominations, including best picture.
Directed by Joachim Trier – reuniting with his The Worst Person in the World star Renate Reinsve – this achingly touching masterpiece won the Grand Prix at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and has been widely recognised as one of the most acclaimed European films of the past year.
Stellan Skarsgard gives a Golden Globe-winning performance as Gustav, an ageing filmmaker attempting to cast his estranged daughter, Nora (Reinsve), in a final movie about his late ex-wife.
When she refuses, he courts a young American star (Elle Fanning) for the role, sparking a complex exploration of art, ego and the “repercussions of [a] chosen life”, in Trier’s own words. Read our interview with Trier and his cast.
