With the coronavirus pandemic taking over most peoples’ minds – and much of the media – it’s easy for other important issues to be neglected. An event in Hong Kong on October 17 is making sure climate change remains in the public eye.

TEDxTinHau Countdown – part of TED Countdown, a recently launched global initiative that aims to champion and accelerate solutions to the climate crisis – is an online and in-person event that provides the opportunity to hear new ideas and, importantly, put some good climate habits into action, event co-chair Victoria Gilbert says.

The event focuses on five key areas: energy, transport, materials, food and nature. Speakers include 11-year-old climate change activist Lance Lau whose “Fridays for Future Hong Kong” movement raised awareness about rising sea-levels and animal extinction.

Socially distanced workshops as well as Earth-friendly lunches will also be held. Gilbert says people are encouraged to share climate action stories and ideas on social media by tagging posts #JoinTheCountdown or #CountdownHK.
