Malaysia’s anti-corruption agency on Friday asked the public for help in locating the four children of the late tycoon and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, as it widened an investigation into the family’s wealth.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said it was seeking information on the whereabouts of Asnida Abdul Daim, 63, Md Wira Dani Abdul Daim, 46, Muhammed Amir Zainuddin Daim, 29 and Muhammed Amin Zainuddin Daim, 26, “to assist in investigations”.
The statement, however, did not provide details of the cases involving Daim’s four children.
A MACC source told This Week in Asia that all four were being investigated for failing to declare their assets.
“It is the same as Naimah, all for the same offence,” said the source, who asked not to be named as they were not authorised to speak to the media, referring to Daim’s wife, Naimah Khalid.
Daim’s family has been embroiled in a series of legal battles with the MACC, which in 2024 charged him and Naimah on separate counts of failing to declare their assets.
While Daim was acquitted of all charges after his death in November that year, aged 86, the MACC has continued its case against 68-year-old Naimah.

The couple had said they were victims of political persecution aimed at rivals of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Naimah has maintained that her late husband was subjected to “repeated public slander” by Anwar, whom she accused of weaponising public institutions against his rivals.
A close ally of former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, Daim was one of the most high-profile individuals under investigation for corruption.
Daim and Mahathir, who turns 101 this year, were credited with driving Malaysia’s economic boom between the 1980s and 1990s, a period that their critics say was tarnished by widespread crony capitalism that benefited Mahathir’s inner circle.
Anwar, a former Mahathir protege, was sacked from office in 1998 after a falling out with the then-prime minister and later jailed for sodomy and corruption – charges that he and his supporters maintain were trumped up to end his political career.
Daim’s family is currently seeking to quash the MACC’s bid to forfeit some 2 billion ringgit (US$514.2 million) in assets it said were held by the family.
The commission has already frozen access to the family’s prized 58-storey Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur’s business district. Last June, it secured approval from a Malaysian court to pursue assets worth 132 million pounds (US$178 million), which are believed to include bank accounts and prime properties held by the family in London.
