Chairman of Hong Kong property developer Sino Group Robert Ng Chee Siong and his three children have been designated as politically significant persons in Singapore under the city state’s foreign interference laws for their links to China’s top political advisory body.

Singapore’s home affairs ministry said in a statement on Monday that Ng, Daryl Ng Win Kong, Nikki Ng Mien Hua and David Ng Win Loong had made declarations last year to the Registry of Foreign and Political Disclosures that they were members of a foreign legislature or foreign political organisation. The declaration is required for Singapore citizens under foreign interference laws.

The Ng family is among the most prominent in Singapore. Robert Ng, 72, is the son of the late tycoon Ng Teng Fong. He and his brother, Philip Ng, control Far East Organisation, Singapore’s largest private property developer and landlord.

This Week in Asia has contacted Sino Group for more information on their designations.

The ministry did not explicitly state which foreign country the four had links to, however they have all reportedly held positions in the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China’s top political advisory body.

According to the Sino Group website, Robert Ng, who has been involved in property investment and development in Hong Kong for close to five decades, was a member of the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th National Committee of the CPPCC and deputy director of the Committee for Economic Affairs of the 13th and 14th National Committee of the CPPCC.
