The mother of Siranudh “Psi” Scott, the 29-year-old scion whose childhood abuse accusations against his brother triggered public sympathy and revealed a rupture inside one of Thailand’s richest families, on Friday dropped her “ungrateful child’’ lawsuit against her younger son as she appealed for space to “heal’’ her family.
Chiranuj Bhirombhakdi filed a lawsuit in February against Psi under a 1908 law that enforces filial duty, in a country where family ties border on the sacrosanct.
Psi, a marine conservationist with a large social media following, stunned the public in May after going public with sexual abuse allegations against his older brother Sunit.
His allegations sparked a crisis in the Bhirombhakdi family, who own Singha beer through the Boon Rawd Brewery Group.
Sunit has strenuously denied the allegations. Nonetheless, the family firm removed him from his executive roles soon after the allegations became public.
In a statement shared with local media on Friday, Chiranuj said she had withdrawn her lawsuit against Psi after court mediation.

“As a mother, it deeply pains me that I have had to rely on the court process. This is never something any mother would wish for,’’ she said in the statement.
“For many years, my family and I have made every effort to talk through the issues and find a way forward, but we were unable to reach a resolution. Eventually, we had no choice but to seek the help of the court.’’
Another court date was originally scheduled for next week, which could have led to an open civil trial.
Describing to This Week in Asia on Sunday his “painful’’ battle for justice, Psi said he went public with the allegations after years of keeping his abuse by his older brother a secret. He has not spoken to his mother in several years.
The matriarch said her decision to end her legal action was a path to “opening the door to dialogue about everything that has happened and to discuss how we should move forward”.
“I have always loved both of my children with all my heart. That truth has never changed and never will, regardless of the circumstances or what anyone may say,’’ she said, adding she would accept any future legal cases involving her sons.


Explaining her public silence as the scandal raged, she described the issue as a “deeply sensitive family matter’’ and she had tried to be fair to her sons while protecting the Bhirombhakdi clan from damage.
Psi – affectionately dubbed “merman” for his open-water swimming accomplishments – has said he no longer wants to be associated with the Singha name.
The support from “many people in Thailand and overseas” helped him seek justice for the alleged abuse that he had carried alone for years, he told This Week in Asia.
“I took a leap of faith, and I landed,” he said. “It took me years and therapy to figure out the right way to lift the trauma off of my back. The simplest response to trauma is love and understanding.”
