A Japan Post employee was arrested on Thursday after allegedly mailing a condom filled with semen to a post office. Authorities are investigating the unusual package, which has raised safety concerns among staff.
The suspect, Yasuhiro Nakajima, 43, addressed the envelope, which contained the used condom and other items, to a female employee at the targeted branch in December of last year, The Japan Times reported.
He was working at a post office in Neyagawa, a city about 15 kilometres (9 miles) northeast of Osaka, according to Nippon TV.
The Osaka Prefectural Police arrested him on suspicion of forcible obstruction of business after the targeted post office reported the incident. Authorities identified him through handwriting analysis and DNA testing on the envelope.
Nakajima reportedly admitted to sending the package but denied the charges.

“I sent it to satisfy my sexual urges, but I only sent the condoms and did not disrupt business operations,” he said, according to Nippon TV.
The news sparked confusion and anger online, with many questioning the motivation behind his actions.
“What’s the point of doing that? How does this satisfy some kind of need?” asked several Japanese users on social media.
Another added: “He should be charged with a sexual offence, not with the obstruction of business. Otherwise, I don’t think he will understand that he has committed a crime.”
Police found two additional envelopes containing condoms at Nakajima’s residence, The Japan Times reported.

Authorities also confirmed that more than a dozen similar cases have been reported at post offices across the prefecture, and are investigating whether Nakajima has committed other related crimes.
Similar acts of sending sexually explicit and disturbing items through the mail have also occurred elsewhere in the world.
In 2023, more than 60 women living in Melbourne, Australia, received used condoms and handwritten letters with graphic messages.
The women had attended the same secondary school in the late 1990s. Investigators believe the offender had obtained the women’s addresses from a student-created yearbook.
