Manila cleans up rubbish-clogged river after days of heavy rain
Some areas in the northern Philippines saw a month’s worth of rain in only nine days.
A massive clean-up is under way in the Philippine capital Manila to unclog waterways that have filled up with trash that was washed in by days of heavy rain. While the archipelago faces seasonal monsoon rains every year, recent tropical storms have worsened the impact of the weather pattern. At least 16 people in the northern Philippines have also been killed by landslides, floods and accidents triggered by the constant downpour.
