China and the Philippines trade accusations after clash in South China Sea

China and the Philippines traded accusations after a clash of their maritime forces in the South China Sea on Monday. The confrontation comes just as both sides are due to attend an Asean regional summit in Manila on Wednesday. The Philippine military accused the China Coast Guard of striking a Filipino sailor with a baton after a Chinese vessel approached a grounded ship that has long served as a Philippine garrison in the disputed South China Sea.
