US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran on April 21, 2026, just hours before the two-week truce was set to expire. In a social media post, Trump described Iran’s government as “seriously fractured”. Washington’s decision to postpone military operations followed a request from Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Trump said the arrangement would hold “until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal”.
