3 killed by knife-wielding attacker in Taipei

Three people were killed and several more injured when a knife-wielding attacker went on a rampage in central Taipei on the evening of December 19, 2025. The man let off smoke bombs at the city’s main train station, then ran through a busy shopping district randomly attacking people, Taiwan premier Cho Jung-tai said. The suspect then reportedly jumped from a building and died. Beijing sees Taiwan as part of China to be reunited by force if necessary. Most countries, including the US, do not recognise Taiwan as an independent state, but Washington is opposed to any attempt to take the self-governed island by force and is committed to supplying it with weapons.
