US President Donald Trump has slapped steep tariffs on dozens of America’s trading partners ahead of an August 1, 2025, trade deal deadline. The US leader signed an executive order on July 31, raising tariffs on many Canadian goods from 25 per cent to 35 per cent, and 50 per cent for products from Brazil. Trump released an executive order listing higher import duty rates of 10 per cent to 41 per cent starting in seven days for 69 trading partners as the 12.01am Eastern Time deadline approached. Some countries had reached tariff-reducing deals, but others had no opportunity to negotiate with the Trump administration.
