Tech billionaire Elon Musk has been given the green light by US President Donald Trump to buy TikTok “if he wanted to”. Trump made the comments on January 21, 2025, after issuing an executive order on his first day in office that extended by 75 days the company’s deadline to find a non-Chinese buyer. The US president says he wants the Chinese parent company ByteDance to sell 50 per cent of TikTok to a US company in order for the short-video platform to continue operating in the country.
