A test flight of a SpaceX Starship prototype has failed minutes after launch from the US state of Texas. The loss was a setback for the company's accelerated rocket development efforts because the mission was expected to debut a key satellite deployment system. The Starship, a heavily upgraded version that stood roughly 37 storeys tall, lifted off from the company's Texas launch facilities on January 16, 2025, in the company's seventh test mission and first such test of the year.
