Food and medicine running low in Sudanese capital, prompting warnings of ‘catastrophic’ situation

Business owners in Sudan’s capital Khartoum have warned of a “catastrophic” shortage of food and medicine supplies, after the city’s airport closed amid ongoing fighting. Supplies have been running low since fighting broke out between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group on April 15, 2023. Khartoum is currently under a 72-hour ceasefire that began on April 24, after previous ones failed to take place. At least 459 people have been killed and tens of thousands have been forced to evacuate.
