‘This is a transitional period’: Who are the generals behind the Sudan conflict?

The northeast African nation of Sudan has been caught up in deadly fighting between warring factions led by two generals: Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, who heads the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In 2019, the two united to overthrow a corrupt dictator, but have since become bitter enemies dragging the country on the brink of civil war.
