Iranian police set up cameras in public sites to identify women defying compulsory dress code

Iranian authorities are installing cameras in public places to identify and penalise women not wearing a headscarf, Iran's chief of police announced on April 8, 2023. The increased surveillance is an attempt to rein in the growing number of women defying Iran's compulsory dress code. Since the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini while in custody for allegedly violating the hijab rule in September 2022, a growing number of Iranian women has been ditching their head coverings in a sign of protest.
