Atomic scientists set the "Doomsday Clock" closer to midnight than ever before on January 24, 2023, citing threats of nuclear war, disease and climate volatility. Russia's invasion of Ukraine was said to be one of the largest contributing factors of putting humanity at risk. The symbolic timepiece, created in 1947 by atomic scientists including Albert Einstein, illustrates how close humanity is to the end of the world. Previously set at 100 seconds to midnight in January 2020, the clock has now been cut by 10 seconds.
