Pope Francis urges prayers for ‘very sick’ former pope Benedict

Pope Francis has urged people to pray for Benedict XVI, saying on December 28, 2022, that the 95-year-old former pontiff is “very sick”. 

The German pope emeritus was the first pope to apologise for abuse scandals in the church and the first in six centuries to voluntarily step down as the head of the Catholic Church.
