‘No cause for fear’: UN warns against ‘alarmism’ as global population nears 8 billion

With the world population expected to surpass 8 billion by November 15, 2022, a senior United Nations official has warned against “population alarmism”. Dr Natalia Kanem, executive director of the UN Population Fund, called instead for global efforts to focus on helping women, children and marginalised people.
