JPG file by digital-only artist Beeple fetches nearly US$70 million at Christie’s auction

A digital collage of 5,000 images sold for US$69.3 million in an online auction organised by Christie's on March 11, 2021. The digital-only work was created by American artist Mike Winkelmann, also known as Beeple, and an asset with no physical form called a Non-Fungible Token (NFT). The eight-figure sale was the latest in a rush for NFT purchases, and according to Christies it made Beeple one of the world’s top three most-valuable living artists.
