Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala becomes first African, first woman director general of WTO

The World Trade Organization has appointed Nigeria’s former finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as its director general. She will be Africa’s first WTO chief and the first woman to lead the Geneva-based body. She will start the role on March 1, 2021.
