A year after siege, Philippines’ Marawi lies in ruins

A year after militants loyal to the Islamic State laid siege to the southern Philippines city of Marawi, prompting a near five-month battle with the country’s military, the city lies in ruins. 237,000 people remain displaced and there is no word on when they’ll be able to return to what’s left of their homes.

South China Morning Post visited Marawi.
